GOD REFERS TO HIMSELF

There are many fantastic truths God reveals to us about Himself through the ways He refers to Himself in Scriptures.

Often, God refers to Himself in a specific way to reveal particular characteristics. The most notable of these in the Old Testament is the name He gave to Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3).

Sadly, the exact sound of that name has been lost, however, we still have the four Hebrew characters (letters) that represent that name.

The name is YHVH.

Because God has allowed the sound to be lost, at least temporarily, perhaps we need to focus on the meaning of YHVH.

The name itself is a statement about God’s infinite existence in the past, present, and future. He is the Beginning, the Infinite Source, and Perfection of all.

Through that name, and others in the Scriptures, God tells us about Himself. He declares His nature. Through His name, God declares Who He is, What He is, When He is, Where He is, and Why and How He functions.
