Dear Family,
Today is Thursday, May 7, 2020, Day 26 in our Counting toward Pentecost. This is the 5th day of Week 4.
What lessons can we learn as we examine possible purposes for God’s providing daily manna from heaven to Israel?
Surely, God had chosen this nation of people. They were a family grown big. They were a family whose” fathers,” Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, were men of faith. God had made tremendous promises to Abraham and reconfirmed them through both Isaac and Jacob. God never changed His mind and never chose another nation.
Today, God still loves that physical nation and will bring them back to a very special place with Him even though Abraham’s physical descendants proved to be very disloyal to the God of Abraham. However, in these times of the Church of God, the Bride of Christ, God has chosen a nation of spiritual descendants. He calls them Abraham’s seed. He has chosen to make us spiritual Israel, regardless of bloodlines or any physical DNA.
We are made one through God’s Spirit. We are made one by partaking of the Bread of Life. And, we need to eat of that Bread on a daily basis. It is provided in small amounts, bit by bit from heaven.
According to verses in John 6, manna was a type of Jesus Christ. Jesus called Himself the Bread of Life multiple times.
John 6:33, 35, 48, 51 (33) For the bread of God is He which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. (35) And Jesus said unto them I am the bread of life: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst. (48) I am that bread of life. (51) I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
Manna was given daily so Israel would learn to trust God’s desire and ability to provide for His people. Jesus said we are to pray about our food daily, “Give us this day our daily bread.” And, He told His followers to, “Labor not for the meat that perisheth…” (John 6:27). Today, we can eat of Bread that never perishes.
Let us realize the implications of eating daily of Jesus, the True Bread of Life. What are some of those implications? Among others things, eating of Jesus, Who is also known as the Word, means daily internalizing God’s food, His Word. This will bring us into God’s presence more consistently. And, when we abide in Him, we will bring forth fruit that glorifies God.
John 15:7-8 (7) If ye abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. (8) Herein is My Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be My disciples.
Just imagine what it would mean in our lives to always receive what we ask God for! Brethren, are we eating of this spiritual Bread daily?
May God bless you as you eat the Bread He has provided!
