Dear Family,
Today is Sunday, May 17, 2020, Day 36 in our Counting toward Pentecost. This is the 1st day of Week 6.
During their journey to Mt. Sinai God had covered Israel again and again. Now, at Rephidim He used humans to battle Amalek, but the victory was clearly in God’s hands. When Moses lowered the rod Amalek prevailed, but when the rod was high Israel prevailed.
Exodus 17:8-12 (8) Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. (9) And Moses said unto Joshua, choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. (10) So, Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. (11) And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. (12) But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
As true Believers we see this pattern of spiritual warfare in our lives today. When we reach upward, looking to God, we prevail. When we are not offering ourselves up to God, or lifting ourselves up to God, reaching out to Him, we fight on our own, and we suffer. He is our Shield, our Defender, our Savior.
1 Timothy 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
Psalm 3:3 But Thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
Exodus 14:14The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
Psalm 35:1 Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.
God instructed that Joshua should choose men and fight, but safety was of the LORD. And, so it is in our lives. God fights some battles for us all by Himself. Then, there are other battles He wants us to engage in, realizing where the victory rests.
Proverbs 21:31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.
May God bless us to fight the good fight of faith as He directs.
