Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Proverbs 4:26
Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
Did Jesus Come to Destroy the Law of God?
Did Jesus transform the Law into something else? Did He make it of no consequence to His followers?
In Matthew 5:17 Jesus addressed these questions to the people listening to His Sermon on the Mount. He clearly told them not to think He came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. Apparently, there was some discussion among the people indicating that He might.
Jesus brought up the subject in order to dispel any error about His relationship to the Law of God.
There have been many people down through the centuries who claim that Jesus’ work of salvation destroyed the Law of God. They claim He transformed it into a temporary, negative, condemning piece of legislation, and completely did away with any penalty or consequence related to breaking or keeping the Law.
Jesus did no such thing! In fact, our Savior established the Law. And, decades after Jesus had died and was resurrected, God inspired the Apostle Paul to label the Law of God as holy, just, and good.
Romans 7:12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
Through the Holy Spirit, the Power of Almighty God, Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life so He could be the ultimate Lamb of God Who would take away the sin of the world.
God prepared His own Sacrifice (the life’s blood of our Savior) to cover the debt we owe. It is a debt we owe because we have all broken the Law of God. We have incurred the death penalty. But, through God’s awesome and incredible Plan, Jesus has paid the death penalty for us.
Because of His perfect Sacrifice (meaning He never broke the Law of God), Jesus was able, qualified, and willing to die in our place and make it possible for the Almighty God to forgive us and grant us everlasting life as a GIFT!
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal lie through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Which Commandment Did Jesus Break?
Does the question shock you? Actually, the Pharisees confronted Jesus about commandment breaking.
John 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought to kill Him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was his Father, making Himself equal with God.
Do we believe those words? Did the Apostle John actually write that Jesus broke the Sabbath? Or, did John report the Jew’s accusations?
Many people have been falsely accused of things they have not done, and so it is the case here. So, how did this happen?
Jesus, Himself, said that He kept the Father’s commandments.
John 15:10 I have kept my Father’s commandments.
But, it’s true that Jesus did break some commandments! What He broke were the commandments of men!
During their captivity in Babylon around 500 BC and until the time of Jesus, the JEWS, (both Pharisees and Sadducees) created a massive set of their own commandments. And, they added them to the law of God. They began to teach their version of what was right and wrong. In essence, they set aside the commandments of God so they could teach their twisted, distorted version.
Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Jesus is our SINLESS Savior! He never broke any of God’s commandments! If He had ever sinned, He could not have become the perfect Lamb of God, slain from the foundation of the world. Jesus always submitted Himself in complete obedience to His Father. This is truth you can count on!
Proverbs 3:7
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
Psalm 2:11
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Genesis 1:26
And God said, Let Us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Psalm 31:14
But I trusted in Thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.
Are You Talking to Yourself?
Many of us find ourselves talking to ourselves during the day. Don’t worry! It’s common! It’s typical! And, it’s considered to be normal (whatever normal is these days). The key is knowing what to talk to yourself about.
The Apostle Paul actually told the Brethren in Ephesus to talk to themselves, and he also told them what to say.
Ephesians 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.
There are other Scriptures that give us insight about what is to be on our minds when we are speaking to ourselves as well as when we are speaking to others.
Basically, the Bible shows us that there are “words” or “thoughts” for every occasion. We find a good example of this in the book of James.
James tells us what we are to be doing when we are “afflicted.” We are told to pray…talk to God. Of course, this makes sense. When we are feeling afflicted, God has all the answers. He provides the comfort, the deliverance, the salvation, the forgiveness, the healing, and whatever else we may need.
James 5:13 Is any among you afflicted: let him pray. Is any merry? Let him sing psalms.
Notice, that God also tells us what we can do when we feel merry. God says to sing psalms. And, this makes perfect spiritual sense, because singing is a wonderful way to strengthen a good mood or an attitude. Singing is a beautiful way to interact with our heavenly Father and rejoice in His presence.
God wants His Word in us…richly and with all wisdom so we can teach and admonish one another and sing to our Lord with grace in our hearts.
No matter how diligent and careful we try to be with our words, what we keep in our hearts will eventually find its way out of our mouths.
Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.
Matthew 12:34(b) for out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh.
So, if we talk to ourselves about the things of God, in due time we will be speaking about the things of God to others so they can also be blessed. It’s all part of God’s plan for us!
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Let’s keep talking to ourselves! About the things of God!
Proverbs 30:32
If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.
