Dear Family,
Today is Monday, May 4, 2020, Day 23 in our counting toward Pentecost. This is the 2nd day of Week 4.
When the Israelites murmured and complained against Aaron and Moses, it was clear to God and to Moses that the complaints were really directed against God. Moses shows this in the last part of Exodus 16:8 …your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.
Look at the scriptures carefully and notice that God surely had the manna in mind to give Israel all the time. He knew their supplies from Egypt would run out. Providing food from heaven on a daily basis had to be His plan all along.
One of the crucial reasons God wanted to rain bread from heaven was to prove the Israelites. He wanted to see if they would walk in His law.
Exodus 16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you: and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law or no.
God wanted Israel to be dependent upon Him DAILY! It is a matter of building their faith. His provisions of food were obviously supernatural. In addition to the daily manna, bread from heaven, God sent quail. And, while quail may have been native to the area, the amount of quail God sent was completely unprecedented in the natural world. The quail piled up two cubits high (somewhere between two and three feet high).
Exodus 16:13 And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.
Numbers 11:31-32 (31) And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth. (32) And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
Can we learn to trust God daily? Jesus told us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.” There is an important lesson here. God bless us with the eyes to see and the hearts to respond to His daily care.
